He has no idea what he is talking about. Period.

ON Gold Standard is excellent whey protein. In general, all of the ON whey/protein products are very good. Bottom line is that for the most part whey protein is whey protein. The only difference between brands is the flavor, price and whether it's concentrate, isolate or both (and the blend is actually better for you overall.) Some brands (like ON) also add digestive enzymes to help with protein and lactose digestion.

Other than that, they are basically equal.

I'll let you in on another secret, which the guy at GNC SHOULD have known, but clearly didn't. Optimum Nutrition actually manufactures GNCs whey protein products. They are just labeled GNC. So GNCs whey products are basically identical to the corresponding ON products. This knowledge comes in handy because if GNC's product is on sale, you can grab it for less than ON. And vice versa. They are interchangeable.

Second, you absolutely want to consume casein over whey before bed. There is just no disputing this. It's a scientific fact that casein "gels" in the stomach, slowing digestion. So it's best consumed prior to bed or if you expect to not be able to eat for four to six hours.

Finally, there is no reason to take whey with a whole food meal. If you are structuring the macro-nutrients of your meals properly, they will already have plenty of protein. You don't need 60+ grams of aminos in one sitting.

GNC staff is infamous for this kind of crap. They are supplement pushers and most of them have zero knowledge of biology, physiology, diet and sport nutrition. In fact, they are usually just parrots of whatever the Marketing Department at the supplement companies want them to say.

Glad you saw through it. I mean, I wouldn't want you to be anabiolic.

Best of luck!

protein is protein man. damn

I can't answer the first part of your question, but I can answer the second. The way "these people get allowed to give advice" is by applying for and obtaining a job at GNC. It's an ordinary retail job with the typical retail training, or lack thereof. I mean, it's not like you have to have a pharmacy degree to work there.

dude, whey is whey casein is casein and no way is whey before bed better than casein. if he says anabiolic, hes dumb for sure. im a knowledgeable and competetive powerlifterand i take body fortress protein which is from wal mart. that doesnt bloat me, its cheap and i beleive it works just like any other whey.
