Why do some people say eat 70 percent this or that?!


Question: Like I saw a book that went something like this for example, eat 25 percent protein and 10 percent good fats you get the idea but what average person like myself will know there haing that percentage? And how do you measure all that to me books or advice like that is a turn off what gives?

i hope i can explain this well.

there are 4 calories in 1 gram of carbs
there are 4 calories in 1 gram of protein
and 9 calories in 1 gram of fat

okay so for an even number, let's say you eat 2000 calories. and you want to figure out how many calories should go to protein, if you know that you should be eating 20% protein -- first, 20% of 2000 is 400 calories. and divide that by 4, and you need 100 grams of protein.

does that make sense? of course, it's hard to do this perfectly every day. it requires a lot of planning, and might make you completely obsessed with calorie counting and meal planning, and believe me that's no good way to spend your day. an easier way is to just balance every meal by the way it looks - about half greens/veggies/fruits, 1/4 protein, and 1/4 carbs or grains. good luck

I agree, its confusing! So instead of counting percentage (because I have no idea how!) I just make sure I eat my veggies and friuts daily, eat whole grains, some sort of protein (chicken, turkey breast, etc...) and a little of dairy and that's all! Now I have no idea what percentage it all is but hey, it works for me?
