Question: what should i eat?

ive been sick with mono or somthing for a month.
i have had noo appatite.
i lost 16 pounds.

i havn't really eaten today... what would be good to eat even though im not hungry?

Being as I too had Mono in the past (when I was a teen...shared a soda with a friend that hadn't been diagnosed yet..big mistake)...I think I can help you out.


Mono really sucks...and you're totally right in saying that it makes your appetite non-existent. You ARE correct in thinking that you should eat, because eating is very important for your body right now. You need the calories/vitamins to help your body fight off the Mono.

A short list of what I'd ask my mom to pick up for me were:

1.) applesauce cups. good either cold, or warmed up with a dash of cinnamon.
2.) Canned chicken broth, to heat up with some frozen veggies (she cooked them until they were very soft, so that my already sore throat wouldn't get worse.)
3.) Sports drinks
4.) Natural fruit juices
5.) bananas and canned peaches/pears (again..taking my sore throat into consideration.)

There were several other things, but the ones that I listed were easiest (in my opinion) to digest..all while taking minimal effort to consume.

It'll be rough for awhile, but if you're getting all the extra rest you can and are able to eat good quality foods..you'll be feeling better in no time. It took me several months to feel nearly 100% again...but here I am, 15 years later..still kicking lol. Hang in there!

First, eat some cheese and crackers. That will give you protein. Second, please go see a doctor, mono is, in fact, a disease that can cause death. Go to a place such as EmergiCare or some place like that, or call your family or personal doctor. Really hope this helped! Good luck!!!

You are losing too much weight, but you know that. Askign for help is the first step. I know you aren't hungry, but force yourself to eat something small. You need protein and fruits and vegetables to keep you strong to fight the virus. Also, add plenty of good starches- potatoes, wheat bread.

As much as you may not want to, you need to be eating. Shoot for 5 small meals a day. And if you cant force yourself to eat, drink an Ensure or Slim Fast to get the nutrients your body needs.
