I have been dancing since i was 3, I'm 16 now. Have you had any ballet training before? It's not a good idea to "teach" yourself from books/videos. Ballet is ALL about proper placement. Books and videos should be used as an extra resource. You really need a teacher to show and tell you what to do/ what you are doing wrong. Plies are very important in ballet, but 20 minutes is a long time. Plies are the first thing you do at bar, kind of like a mini warm up. And this 1 hour 40 minutes of "other ballet moves" what type of thing will you be doing? bar? center work? leaps? turns? My advice is take class, i know you said you can't but honestly Ballet is way harder then it looks. You just can't look at a book and learn it correctly.

Work up to it....if you are working your muscle groups you should be letting them rest until they are ready for the strain. econd, you should be alternating your toning with come cardio. If ballet does that for you then just do some 'fun' ballet dancing for the days when you are resting your muscles...or work different muscle groups on alternating days....(legs on MOnday and arms on Tuesday etc.)

    Good luck!!

that sounds like a very good (and long) workout, and it will help tone your body. your weight sounds about perfect for your height and age- keep up the good work!!

Have you actually done this yet? Because I really wouldn't recommend 20 minutes of plies - I'm a grade 6 ballerina and I'd collapse if I did that! If you want to strengthen your feet for pointework, do about 20 sets of 8 relevees to demi- pointe (this wil also tone your thighs), although I wouldn't recommend you going en pointe without a teacher as so many things can go wrong.
Check out Martha Graham for more advice. Good Luck.

Honestly, if you are used to dancing already, it probably won't help you lose weight, because your body is accustomed to it.

20 minutes is an awful lot of demi plies.
