Family not cooperating with new diet?!

Question: I am 15 years old and live with my mom and my sister. I have recently started working out in order to stay fit and acheive a heavier body weight. Basically my diet involves drinking plenty of water daily, restricting red meat consumption to once-twice a week, eating chicken breast, fish, and turkey for protein, drinking protein whey shakes after workouts, and eating plenty of fruits and vegitables daily, cutting out all carbonated beverages and restricting consumption of juice. The thing is my mom wants to make red meat for dinner more than once to twice a week and I feel really bad when I have to tell her I would rather eat fish or chicken, or other meals. Also when my family shops they never look at the nutritional information, and buy sugary disgusting cleverly labeled "healthy" products. How can I solve this problem?

Hello.
First I'm glad that you keep such a strict diet I think that you'll achieve you goals faster than you imagine.
Second I must say that your problem is a well known issue among the western civilization.
Try to talk with your parents try to tell them well known facts and you researchers to support your idea.
Show them your results (I'm sure you have already changed a bit) and tell them that all of this wouldn't happen if you haven't check the nutritional value and eat well.
Good luck.

Unfortunately, I think you might have to buy your own poultry and start cooking it yourself.

Offer to help with dinner prep. and cook your meat and help with the prep. of the sides. This way whoever does the cooking now won't be upset. If they see that you are serious after you help out, they may be more likely to accept your new diet.

Best Wishes and Health!

Offer to cook dinner once in a while. Find good/healthy recipes and teach your mom and sister that eating healthy does not have to mean eating gross foods. This will help your goals and also help them get healthier. This will be a gradual change, you will need to show restraint too.

Good job on starting your new diet! As far as what your mom buys at the grocery store you are in a bit of a pickle... Do you come from a big family? All you can do is ask her to buy the things you need, and when she makes things that aren't part of your diet refuse to eat it.

Can you go to the grocery store with her on shopping day? That would make a big difference as far as what she buys because you will be there to influence her. If you just tell her what you want she will probably not remember it. No parent is going to deny their children good nutritional food- she probably just doesn't know what to buy and needs you to come along for a few times.
