Answers: what do you think about people who have eating disorders such as bulimia, anorexia?

Speaking as someone who has and is suffering from this illness, the above comments are totally diluded. "I pity then" "Purposley starve themselves"

Nobody does it for attention, nobody wants to be anorexic.
Its not something you want, just something in your genes or something you develop.
Nasty comments to someone like "your ugly, fat, chubby", can SERIOUSLY hurt someone.
I was called ugly in school at the age of 13, this drove me to anorexia. When i started to recover, someone called me fat and i am now relapsed completley.
You can never blame someone for being anorexic. Blame the media and the horrible horrible comments that people can make about a person's appearance. People with eating disorders are seriously depressed and near suicidle. They dont actually want to be thin, they just need something to control in there lives. There is nothing glamerous about an eating disorder. Girls with eating disorders miss out on their teen years, boyfriendsm social events. It's so terrible and a life long battle.

Its the hardest thing a person ever has to go through.

Mentally ill.

They need to get help

I think its horrible that someone could purposefully kill their body to be thin.

well i pity them...

That they need help, why do you ask?

I think I will reserve my sympathy for those who dont have food to eat in the first place.

desperation and insecurity.

that they have an eating disorder. deeper-rooted issues than simply food.

They're very unnatractive to women AND Men, they need help and a better self esteem.

Seriously, some of these people look like the were a prisoner at a concentration camp, how in the He77 is that sexy or pretty?

I used to be one but after a couple of years of therapy and the love of my friends and family I got through it and am just fine now. Believe me, these issues have nothing to do with food itself but are a vicious circle with low self-esteem at the centre.

Naomi is right, its not about the food, its about control and self worth, or lack of it.
As someone who has been bulimic since the age of 14 (i am now 28) i have lost nearly my whole life because of this illness, and it IS an illness.
I never went out with friends, never had a bf, never had close friends..i was too wrapped up in my bulimia.
There is NOTHING cool or glam about having an Ed, it is a terrible way to live, and takes over your life 100%. the only thing you think about is food.
I am now, finally, having counselling for my bulimia, but after 14 years of having it, the bulimic behaviour is so ingrained in me, that its VERY hard to distinguish between the bulimic thoughts, and my own thoughts..but i am 99.9% certain that i will overcome this illness, slowly but surely.

that they have issues, that they need help and i feel sorry for them

It's not a vanity thing, it a self control issue. They restrict their food intake in order to feel self gratification. They feel like they have control over something in their, somewhat, chaotic life.

I think people with ED'S are incredibly strong.
I think they are misjudged far too often.

Never tell someone with an eating disorder to " just eat." it's not as simple as that. Weight gain, as little as half a pound is enough to make the person suffering from the condition suicidal. Depressed. Self loathing. Feel like a big "fat" failure.

Not because they regard it as a superficial thing. Because they have momentarily lost that control they fought so hard to "gain" in the first place.

Now if your talking about "wannarexics", then that's another story. They just adapt to disordered eating of people suffering with ED'S in order to lose weight. Most of those girls will never have to deal with all of the emotional & mental issues that accompany an anorexics relationship with food.

Those with ED'S stay strong!
