How do I lose one pound in a week?!

Question: I eat cereal for breakfast and dinner and I also eat something healthy like pasta, a salad, or a turkey breast sandwitch for lunch. For snacks, I eat bananas, apples, or granola bars.
Eventhough I am on this diet, I am not losing any weight. Am I doing something wrong? I need to know the best and healthiest way to lose at least a pound a week. Any ideas?

To lose 1 lb of weight (fat) in a week, you need to burn off an extra of 500 calories per day.

This is based on the fact that 1 lb of fat equals 3,500 calories.

Hence, 500 calories x7 days = 3,500 calories =1 lb of fat.

You can do this thru:

1. exercise alone; or
2. eating healthy diet alone; or
3. thru the combo of exercise and eating healthy diet

The healthy and effective method is the combo of exercise and eating healthy diet.

Your eating part could be healthy but your exercise part?

Do cardio exercise (running, walking, jogging, biking.....) for at least 30 mins per session, 3-4 times per week, to kick start your metabolism into higher gear, to burn off excess calories.

Right now, you'ven't experienced weight loss because you didn't get to burn off an extra of 500 calories per day.

exercise

It sounds like you've got the diet part down right, but you probably just need to add some exercise. 30 minutes a day, a couple days a week should set you on the right path. Even if you can't get to a gym, just doing little things like parking super far away from the front door at WalMart and walking in is helpful!

cut a foot off, that's prob more than a pound

Your off to a good start. Proper nutrition is just as important as exercise but as your seeing doing just one won't satisfy the results that your looking for. It also depends on the cereal that your eating, make sure that its healthy and that your using skim milk.

Okay, start adding exercise into your daily routine. I would suggest running, however if you can't run try walking it won't hurt any. Also, add in some calisthenics to your workout, for example, sit-ups, flutter kicks, scissor kicks, etc. to your workout.

Also, if you just start a running program, remember to stretch properly. Also, don't run on your third week. By not taking a break from running it will increase the chance of severe running injuries.

Good Luck!

"For snacks, I eat bananas, apples, or granola bars"

Fructose, the sugar in fruit, is an especially 'fast' sugar, meaning it is stored as fat very easily - and fruit is basically sugar and water. Yes you should eat some fruit for health but for slimming it's a terrible snack.

Check the nutritional label of your granny bars, then compare to a Snickers. Not much difference! They're more hype than healthy.

Don't cut out fat completely, you need to eat some before your body will let go of stored fat - and you need protein in the morning. I'd suggest a nutty oatmeal meusli (wrong spelling, sorry) instead of some sugary cereal. It's slower to digest and will keep you going and a good mix of nuts contains protein.

Also throw some exercise in there, even a 20 minute walk will burn off some extra lard.
