There is a lot of confusing information about dieting, including many fad diets which might work for a short time but are no good long term.

The ideal diet is one that you can maintain, since crash dieting just messes up your metabolism, and makes you more likely to put on weight rapidly when you've finished. It's much better to lose weight slowly, and keep to a healthy eating plan than to lose it fast and then pile it back on again.

As for what you should eat, that can vary somewhat from person to person. There are general principles: eg cut out all saturated and hydrogenated fat: avoid cream, cut down on processed foods as much as you can, avoid pastries and anything with a lot of cheese. Also you should avoid all kinds of colas including the so-called 'diet' drinks, as they give you an artificial sweet taste and provide nothing nutritionally.

Concentrate on fruit and veg, whole grains, and low-fat protein (mainly chicken, fish, beans, lentils, soya products). Try eating fruit at breakfast, with perhaps some low-fat yogurt or muesli (check that the fat content is less than 10g per 100g). Have a piece of fruit or a few nuts mid-morning, a large salad for lunch with wholemeal bread or Ryvita and a SMALL amount of a healthy spread such as Bertolli, and perhaps some hummus or tuna. Have another small snack mid-afternoon, and for your evening meal a healthy option - perhaps a baked potato with grilled chicken in a tomato sauce, and some steamed veg. If you eat a couple of nuts before going to bed, it can keep your metabolism going overnight, too.

Try to eat foods that you enjoy and find new, low-fat ways of cooking them - that way you'll be more inclined to continue eating that way. Also drink lots of water and/or herbal teas, have as much fresh fruit and veg as you like, and do some exercise - even half an hour of fairly brisk walking per day is fine if you don't like any other kind of exercise.

go on a seefood diet, See food and eat it

dust.

You can't go wrong with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

follow the food pyramid!!

I would suggest that you eat mostly protein in the form of fish. Be sure to keep a little fat in your diet for proper assimilation of certain vitamins. Keep the carbs to a minimum. Drink lots of water. And, if you can, exercise.

"Everything you normally would eat." Nothing special. There is no reason to give up your favorite foods. Just eat everything in moderation, and eat 3 meals a day. Plus snacks. Don't Starve yourself..or it won't work.
