Can someone explain the heart rate as it relates to weight loss?!

Question: When I'm jogging and try to keep it within a certain number, I feel that I'm not working out good enough...as I have to slow down for the targeted number. Should I adjust my speed based on my heart rate or feeling that I'm really working out?

People look way too hard into this...magazines..so called fitness experts. They want you to pay all this money to read about things like this. The more they make you think about it...the more money you will spend on researching it and the more headache you will have thinking about it. When you are exercising...you should just focus on your workout...if you focus on anything else it will take away from the effectiveness of your work out and your weight loss goals.

Get on a plan...follow through with it for 6 weeks...take a few days off...get a new plan and follow through that for 6 weeks. Don't worry about the heart rate..(Unless you have high blood pressure or some heart condition) But focus strictly on your workout...not worrying about how many beats your heart is beating per minute. Put some good music on and set a goal each time you wlk into the gym to complete the workout and complete it hard! Don't think of anything else but your workout and get into it.

I was 135 pounds when I started exercising 8 years ago. I am not 170 wiht 6.5 percent body fat. I never worried about my heart rate or anything else but my goal to complete my workout routine every time I stepped into the gym.

I hope this helps. If you need anything else, feel free to message me.

basically, you want to work out at a heart rate that is 50-90 percent of your max rate. (220-age-ish). That's a pretty big range. But the lower range is the start of cardio workout, and burns more fat. The higher you go, the more cardio workout you do, and the more carbs you burn from your bloodstream, etc. Higher for short periods also helps develop your cardiovascular system to be able to perform better.
You should adjust your speed to stay in the target range, and vary to the higher rates on occasion to develop your cardio health.

If you want to lose weight then just keep your heart rate up for 20 minutes straight then if you continue to go longer than 20 minutes you start to use your fat for energy thus losing weight. its more of a time thing dont go to crazy trying to increase your heart rate a certain amount just keep it up for more than 20 minutes.

You use different fuels at different levels of heart rate. In your Fat zone, you will burn mostly fat along with a small amount of carbohydrates(glycogen) at your cardio level you will burn more carbs but are still burning fat, full out you are burning glycogen only.
If you are trying to burn off body fat you will get better results spending more time in the fat zone. To feel more satisfied try going at your fat pace for 10-15 minutes, then do a few sprints until your heart gets to 160-180 then go back to the easier pace and repeat several times.
I did a cycle camp when I was racing and they took away the big chain ring to make us slow down and do this type of training, it was amazing the difference a couple of weeks of this can make.
