My brother is a dancer and is 6ft 2inches when he went for his first audition for Rambert (who he now dances for) he was told that he was too thin and that he needed to 'bulk up' a bit. Male dancers need to be quite thin and tonned on the legs but the shoulders need to be quite muscular - its an astetics thing.

Anywho he has trouble gaining weight as he's so active. He went to the doctor who put him in touch with a nutritionist.

He was advised to eat little and often and to eat lean protein with pasta and lots of vegetables and fruit and to also do weight bearing exercises - I'm not suggesting that a 16 year old boy join a gym because you are still growing and could harm your body but some press ups and some squats would be good, also he started swimming which is excellent all over body exercise.

He bulked up and now dances for Rambert.

Here are some of the things he ate.

Pasta, boiled or jacket potatoes (excellent carbohydrate)
Wholemeal or seeded bread (not white it's full of sugar)
Fish, lean chicken, beef and pork (skin removed -excellent protein)
Lots of fruit and vegetables
Avocados (good natural fats)

Eat little and often so for example

breakfast - bran cereal with two sliced bananas and full fat
milk
Mid morning snack - large fruit salad with nuts and seeds
Lunch - chick, beef, pork or fish with pasta and lots of salad
Mid afternoon snack - Oat cakes spread with peanut butter
Dinner - large portion of protein, veg and potatoes or pasta (you can make this interesting by making it into curry or bolognaise)
Make puddings things like dried fruit with natural yoghurt and honey.

Drink some good protein shakes too, which you can get from Holland and Barrett or from any good health shop.

Drink plenty of water.

eat healthy....a balanced diet of meat, breads, fruits and veggies, and lastly fats.

Eat close to the source. The less processed your food is, the healthier.

The key is: Diet Diet Diet, then exercise:

You need to eat 5-6 small meals a day. Eat some protein with each meal! Cut out all refined sugar!!! Also add more fiber. The fiber and protein will fill you up, helping you to cut down on your unhealthy eating. Also by eating more than 3 meals spread out through the day you will kick your metabolism in high gear. Here is a general meal for a day:

Breakfast: 2 poached eggs
whole wheat toast
1/2 cup fruit

Snack: Cottage Cheese with veggie

Lunch: Turkey, lettuce, tomato, whole wheat bread sandwich
1/2 cup fruit

Snack: Protein Shake

Dinner: Turkey Burger ( no bun )
Side of brown rice
Side of Broc.

Then exercise regularly 4-5 days a week. Do both cardio and lifting. But on days that you do both. Do lifting before your cardio and you will maximize your fat burn. Cardio can be a sport: basketball, soccer, football, anything with losts of movement. Golf is a no no.

So Example :

Monday - 30 mins lifting then 1 hr cardio
Tuesday - 1 hour lifting
Wednesday - Rest
Thrusday - 30 mins lifting then 1 hr cardio
Friday - 1 hour lifting
Saturday - Rest
Sunday - 30 mins lifting then 1 hr cardio
