Any time you add extra resistance to your workout your body has to work just that much harder to keep moving. So not only does it help with cardiovascular endurance but with toning the muscles and weight management as well...I always wear a 40 pound weight vest weather I'm jogging or pushing the iron around at the gym. Curl the weights as you workout. Watch the joints though and use small weights at first or you risk injury...good luck
