Smoking & weight gain?!

Question: I quit smoking (yay!!!) about a month ago and I have already gained at least 7 or 8lbs! Its crazy how much I replaced nicotine with food. So does anybody have any good tips to lose the extra weight I gained? I would also like to lose some of the weight I had before I quit :) . Here is some info on me---21 year old female...almost 140lbs..would LOVE to be 120lbs and I am about 5'4. I have a treadmill and yesterday I started walking on it for 30 min and walked a little over a mile. Will this help me lose the weight or is it not enough? I have a few workout tapes that focus on toning and I have a set of 5lb dumbells & also a jump rope. Any ideas of how I should build my workout routine using some or all of these? Thanks to any tips/suggestions! And I would love to hear stories about how you quit smoking & lost the weight afterwards.
P.S. Anybody considering using Chantix to quit smoking--IT WORKS WONDERFUL!! It was almost too easy! I smoked at least a pack a day since I was 13

congratulations on quitting smoking..keep up the good work..it will be easy for you to lose the weight at your age..excersise..especially walking..drink alot of water ,and watch your calores/fat intake..in other words junk food and sweets..it is a normal thing to gain weight after you quit smoking, but at your age it is easier to lose weight.. i quit smoking 3 years ago, after smoking for 30 years.. i gained 40 pounds in the 3 years since i quit smoking. I am 50 and cannot lose that weight..it is a struggle..but for someone your age its easy..keep up the good work and don't give up..good luck.

Do a lot of cardio to loose the weight. I have heard that when you feel you are hungry but shouldn't be, it is because you are actually thirsty. Eat healthy snacks. Suck on a jolly racher instead of having an actual snack. Good luck!!
