How do people survive during fasting?!

Question: I know some people do that for religious beliefs, some do it to appreciate things more. How do these people not die? What is the whole fasting process? How do they not become malnutrioned?

Usually they dont do it for more than a week at a time. Thats even pushing it. People have built up fat reserves in their bodies and when they fast their body lives off of the fat reserves because it thinks your starving to death. (well technically you are starving yourself) When people stop fasting though their body needs to rebuild fat reserves because it is freaked out that you didnt eat and it think youll do it again so you usually gain more weight than you lost because your body builds up those reserves again plus some.

usually it's only for a day or a few days. people can survive for many days without food if they had to.

Islam- you eat before sun rise at a certain time and then you close your fast. you open your fast just before sunset at a certain time and you eat normally for the rest of the day and night.
i never get hungry and neither does anyone i know. xx

The duration of survival without food is greatly influenced by factors such as body weight, genetic variation, other health considerations and, most importantly, the presence or absence of dehydration.

At the age of 74 and already slight of build, Mahatma Gandhi, the famous nonviolent campaigner for India's independence, survived 21 days of total starvation while only allowing himself sips of water.

muslims fast for a month every year not a week or days A MONTH. i dont know what those other ppl are talking about.
we're doing this for a great reason we're not just doing this for fun.

i fast also and boy i hate fasting BUT only because i cant practice or play any sports because i will dehidrate i feel week when im fasting but at the end its all worth it. im 18 and im still not use to it well i did kind of since i've been doing it since i was like 7.but when its time to eat you will have a great time at the table because your family and friends talk and we all eat the same time which is cool. and its not healthy doing this also,BUT the REASON WHY muslims do this is because in the qu'ran it saids we have 2 feel how the poor people feel and when i fast i feel bad for the poor people im feeling there awful pain, so whenever i see a poor person around the street i either give them food or money which ever i have on my hands.thats why fasting is a good thing and we muslims are doing this for allah, the one and only god. and we all get good deeds. and good things happen to us when we get good deeds like saying if you get good grades in school you pass the test its the same as life you get good deeds you go to paradise. trust me on this. peace 1.

( in my having more than 1 god doesnt make any sense really really really think about it. did you know people who convert to a muslim are more of a muslim than the ones who are born a muslim like they take it more seriously i feel bad for myself because i tell my mom yea ill start praying tommorow and then i just keep saying that everyday well when its time for judgement day i wont have any excuses so im gonna try really really try to get in to it i hope to allah i start praying.

fasting in ISLAM start when the sun rise in the morning, so before the sun rise, we usually had a 'sahur', a time for u to eat..than after the sunrise it is forbiden to eat.

but for certain ppl there r excluded from this 'law' there r:

-pregnant women
-ppl with health prob
-women who r in their period time

than u break ur fast when the sunset. at this time u can eat.

fasting in ISLAM is not only about cannot eat, but also ur inner soul, mind, language, physical reaction and much more. u r not allowed to speak wth bad language, never show ur anger to others, think only positive..and react to others in a good manner..

tht is just a brieft on fastng in ISLAM.

My church fasts from dairy and meat for I month and a half before Easter and Christmas. Also every Wednesday and friday. Some people in our church who follow this fast exactly do look malnurished.
