Need help with my workout???!

Question: I am 5'5" 130 and would like to tone up my body. I haven't exercised for 5 yrs and am trying to get back into it, but don't want to strain my body. This is what I do every day. I do 50 sit-ups on the ball, then ride the bike for 3 miles, then do 2 sets of thirty on this push down machine @ 30 lbs. Then push outs 2 set of 30 @ 25lbs. Then I work my inner, outer, front and back of my thighs all 40lbs. to sets of 30. Will this accomplish toning or size? Your help is soooo appreciated!!

Perfect for toning.

If you've got access to a rowing machine get on that too for your back/shoulders/core.

Toning. but I would do around 15 reps per set. just increase the weight slightly.

Everything looks good. But it doesn't seem necessary to do all of that everyday. Especially the weights...you need to do those every other day.

That will tone. It's a good workout. You won't increase in size with 30 pounds. :)

I prefer Spinning for tone and cardio. I am a certified Johnny G Spinning instructor. I also cycle. Sounds like you have a fairly good plan. Mix up your ab workouts instead of just sit ups. Try crunches, captains chairs, and other ab exercises. This will tone all the ab muscles. Mix your routine up a little more. Now for spinning as it is my favorite. You can tone very well here. There are many routines the instructors will put you through, for strength, endurance, muscle building, abs and fat burning.

Some things to remember if you Spin

Don't be shy as everyone has started somewhere and it is not all that diffacult to start. Its a great support group and all have a lot in common. My class I turn the lights out and use black lights with some great music. Very enjoyable low stress exercise. You can burn from 800 - 1000 calories in an hour.

Use a heart rate monitor - the instructor can show you how to use it for optimum performance. This is critical to fat burning.

Take a water bottle with you and plan on drinking a good 40oz of water. The water helps control temperature and your heart rate. It also prevents muscle cramps and keeps the joints fluid (no pun)

Take a towel as you will sweat like you have never sweated before. You will be drenched.

Wear cycling shorts with the padding - resist the urge to use a gel seat. The cycling shorts are padded and will absorb moisture wicking it away. If you do not, you will get sore, and run into some serious infection sort of things. This will discourage you from spinning. Keeping a good healthy bottom is critical to cycling and spinning. Nuff said.

Sounds like you have a good start on your exercise routine. Only thing I will again say is mix it up so that you do not become bored and discouraged.

Good Luck
