I have a friend who is also active in running and race. She told me that her coach i is always telling her to lift weights because it will develop the muscles in your arms and her coach also told her that in running you'll be needing your arm muscles also.
Indeed sponge. Your arms do alot more than you think when you run.
It depends what event you are running in. Obviously, if your doing the 100m it's understandable and you will be lifting heavier weights than what you would be if you were doing a marathon.
All I know is that lifting weights really *does* make your muscles respond faster. Contrary to popular belief, weightlifting isn't just for strength and (done properly) it doesn't make you musclebound.
