I have high blood pressure and try to get about 2000 mg of sodium a day. Stay away from processed /canned/frozen foods and try to eat fresh foods. Do not use salt when preparing foods either. My wife uses the Mrs. Dash flavorings when cooking meals which have 0 mg of sodium and add a lot of taste to foods.

Also try to increase your potassium intake. This also helps to lower your blood pressure. Bananas, orange juice, and yogurts are a good way to get potassium.

Hope this helps!

Glad I could help! Another note - stay away from fast foods. I enjoy fast foods but one burger at a fast food joint has enough sodium for the entire day! I occasionally have fast food but never more than once a month. Report It

    1. How much salt should I eat to maintain normal sodium levels and are the sodium requirements the same for men and women? Most sodium comes from table salt and canned and pre-prepared foods. According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, adult Americans average 4
