well, it is not the matter of time my dear. because if u do very strict diet for short time u may lose protiens and fluid rather than u loose fat and i assume this what happen to u each time .

Dont eat after 6pm. wake up with a healty breakfast,(fruits) NO junk food,soft drinks,...try to eat at home and cook for yourself. Enjoy every bite of food you take in. eat very small portions thru out the day. =)
the best diet tip i could give is eat alternate...
for example you eat solid foods such as rice today,, so tomorrow you should eat liquids like milk,juice or oatmeal is the best then next day solid foods again then the next day liquids again...

Cut saturated fats... Butter, cheese, ghee (Indian rectified butter), sweets, chocolates, junk foods, deep fried foods, non-vegetarian foods...
Move around fast... Do as much physical work as possible... Play, run, cycle, workout on skipping rope...
