Is it fat or muscle?!

Question: I have a little bit of a pudgy stomach. I was told that I can do as many ab workouts as I want, but it's not going to go away very easily. Do I need to do a lot of cardio to burn the fat off? Or was this person lying to me?

Also, what type of workout would be good to get rid of the pudge?

The best way to lose fat IS cardio, and diet...cut out as much refined sugars, and processed foods as you can...Eat a whole as you can, meaning if it didn't grow on a tree or from the ground, its likely it was processed. Then do whatever cardio that you like, walking, jogging, running, elliptical, treadmill, bike, stepper, aerobics..or Pilate's...anything that raises your heartbeat, and keeps it elevated through your workout...If it seems too easy then its not working effectively.
Also include strength training, as it will help burn more calories even after you are done..the muscle will help to elevate your metabolism...Don't forget to eat! you need to keep fuel in your body, so that it will effectively burn. Too many people cut too many calories and workout like crazy, yet can't achieve their goals..its too much of a caloric deficiency, and the body will slow the metabolism, thus making all your work for nothing...but remember you can't spot reduce, everybodys body burns from different areas quicker...hope this helps! good luck.

Nope. Totally true.
Ab workouts will toughen up your stomach, but most likely you wont slim down. You will, however, be firmer under the pudge. Fat and muscle can layer, causing a larger stomach, if there is a lot of muscle work without cardio.

Cardio is MAJORLY important. Running is great, and if you have on demand, there are cardio and muscle combined excercises on FitTV on demand that are great. Do them 3 or 4 times a week and within a month, you'll deffinitely feel a difference in your tum's firmness and how good you feel :)

Generally, spot toning is not very effective, however, doing abdominal toning exercises is not going to hurt. If you want to see your abs you have to first burn off the fat that is covering them so cardio is a necessary component. Also, maintaining a healthy diet with three servings of low fat diary, a lot of vegetables, fruits, fiber, and whole grains will help you drop some unwanted lbs too.

they're right, you just have to do cardio... losing weight is easy. just be more active and watch what you eat... strength training on top of cardio would also fast track your goals as you'd burn more fat

It is probably fat; most people carry at least a bit there; and they probably meant that it was going to be difficult to remove it because that is a difficult area to lose weight from. So they were not lying. Try diet AND exercise to remove it.

you have to do cardio b/c if you build up ur abs, you'll still have the fat
