You need to add resistance when performing your ab exercises. Also, make sure you are getting a good, strong contraction at the top of the movement -- if it hurts a bit when you squeeze them, you're on the right track.
Try adding resistance by holding a dumbbell or plate over your chest during crunches and oblique work (like side-bends on a back extension.)
Also, cable stations are great for putting tension on the ab muscles. Perform kneeling ab crunches with a cable (use the cable rope attachment) or use the low cable pulley (again with the rope attachment) and a swiss ball to perform weighted swiss ball crunches.
You can also perform hanging leg lifts or Roman chair exercises with a dumbbell between your feet for added resistance.
Rep range should be no more than 15. Use a weight that causes you to fail in the 12-15 rep range. This will add some some mass to your abs. Be careful on overworking the obliques, however, since they can get a little blocky and take away from your V-taper.
