Are eggs high in cholesterol?!

Question: ... and if so, how many should be eaten per week? I love eggs and have about 6-10 per week on average. I don't want to get high cholesterol, so I was just wondering how many would be considered too many.

Egg yolks are rich in cholesterol yes.

There is little convincing evidence that eating cholesterol raises plasma cholesterol to any degree, and certainly your consumption of eggs would pose little risk in terms of raising your cholesterol. What you should be paying more attention to is how you cook your eggs. Boiled and poached are great, but if you fry them the additional fat may do you far more harm than the egg yolk! The same if you add butter and milk to your scrambled!

Dr P

all the cholesterol in eggs are in the yolks, so is most of the flavor. I have high cholesterol and I find if I use 1 whole egg and the whites from 2 others I get decent tasting scrambled eggs / omelets

The yolks are pretty high in cholesterol, especially when compared to the whites.
Egg whites are composed almost entirely of protein, and are actually quite healthy.

recommended by doctors are just twice daily...yes the yellow part or the egg yolk is the one w/c is very high in cholesterol.....
