I really want to start going to the gym? But how do I start?!

Question: Here's the facts. I'm unhappy with my body image and I'm a guy. I have stomach. I'm overweight, but not obese. I have like muscular legs and thighs. Stomach is little pudgy. I have a stocky build, I'm only 5'3 and around 168lbs.

I want to get to somewhere b/w 140-150.
My college has an athletic center, but I'm self conscious going there, because I don't like to work out around other people. But I want to change my life.

How do I make myself go to the gym. I have the times. Wed, Fri and Sundays. All early mornings. I have the clothes and shoes, but how do i get myself to go?

Well, first off, have you ever been to the gym! People of all shapes and sizes go. It would be terrible if you didnt go because you worried or self conscious about being there.

Most of us are not at the body image we desire, Im the opposite of you, an ectomorph, 5'7 135, ive been trying to put on weight for years, hell i wish , i could have your body type, give me ayear at your weight and id be on the wwf!

you can do it man, do some pushups, jumping jacks, situps and dips in your dorm room, jog every day....then go to the gym

I bet your really strong and dont even realize it, Once you get going youll prob get addicted..

plus the girls loook really good on the treadmill!

You can hire a persoanl trainer and he may set a work-out timetale for you.

All the best

Well, I can tell you that I used to be self conscious going to the gym because of the other people there...but once you go a few times you get used to it. And the best thing is you can go early mornings which is when there aren't a lot of people there.

It's hard to start going, people can be very judgmental. Try going with a friend to start that way you can ease your way into the gym and get an idea what you'd like to do and how. If that's not really an option start small and head right to a treadmill or another machine that you can do alone without attracting much attention on yourself. If you are interested in a class of some sort ask who the trainers are and speak to them personally and see how hard or easy it would be to learn and they will be able to help you out too.
