If there is such a thing as negative calorie foods?!


Question: If there is such a thing as "Negative calorie foods" would'nt i burn more calories eating for example, an apple than i would just sitting down? Can you actually lose weight?

Yes, in a sense. There are foods that are very low calorie with high water content (i.e. celery) and the act of metabolizing them burns more energy (calories) then they contain. Thereby giving you a "negative calorie" balance.

Nope, there is no such thing as negative calorie foods. If you want to lose weight just make sure you are burning off more calories than you take in.

Yes, there is because it burns more calories when you digest it. Celery and strawberries are some, I don't know any others- but there are more.

i just know of celery being negative calories... but with nothing added to it!!

Vegetables in general are low in calories because they're made primarily of cellulose which the body can't digest. Therefore, you can't gain any calories from it. As it passes through the body, the body tries to digest it and passes it along which requires energy. So in that case it's a negative calorie food. But if the body could digest cellulose then it would most definitely NOT be "calorie free."
