University gyms?!

Question: So I am in my second year and have never been to my gym. I wanna loose 5 lbs by maybe toning my arms, thighs and tummy.

What machines should I use? (I am pretty scrawny think 100 lbs 5"1 type, so no extreme weight lifting)

Do people watch you workout? Is it awkward?

Can I bring my mp3? Or is that some kind of hazard ...

Lastly what time would you recommend to go? (I would prefer if a time where there aren't a lot of people)

you should do cardio- running!!
and use the weight machinese on different days. like work one day on arms, one day on abs. etc.

no, it is usually not awkward to workout.
unless there are some creepy old people.. but since you're at a university it should be fine.

bring your mp3! listening to fun, upbeat songs is very helpful ( :

I go to the gym a lot, and for me the afternoon tends to have the least people.
but, it may be different for a university.
i suggest skipping nights though, to escape most of the people!

hope this helps( :

Treadmill and bike for cardio and dumb bells and bench press for muscle. Since you said no extreme weight lifting, many people think that the bench press is a lot of weight, but usually if you just lift the bar it's around 45 to 55 lbs. (Just to clear that up if you were uncertain. It's not awkward to workout because everyone else is just as focused on exercising as you are. Also, you can bring your mp3 or iPod.
