How can you tell when your building muscle in your biceps?!

Question: I lift dumbbells. But when I lift my arm straight out to my side like an airplane, all the fat goes down to my triceps and the bottom of my arm. But they look smaller. They are 14 inches round. Its mostly fat. Im 261 pounds and 16 years old. My height is 5'9. Ive been trying to lose this weight. Im getting a treadmill soon. I already know what im going to do and how Im going to lose the weight. So dont tell me how to! lol

But yeah, how can you tell if you gain muscle? The dumbbells arent but 5 pounds. But when I flex, they look bigger than almost a month and a half ago when I bought the dumbbells.

when I put them straight out, the top of my arms looking down at them look smaller. Not looking at them in the mirror lol

you cant tell if your gaining muscle by just hanging your arms out like that, you should flex and see if your arm is getting harder, and im not trying to tell you how to lose weight but if you really want to gain muscle try dumbells that are 10-20 ponds because im a girls and i lift 10 pound dumbells also try picking up things that use to be too heavy for you an see if it gets easier

Tough to say. The best way is to buy bigger dumbbells. I started at about 15 pounds, and now I'm up to 35 pounds. So I know they're bigger.

I'm not American, I'm an Aussie. But I'm fat too and 70 kilos is big for my age, not pounds.Kilos. So that's like, 150 pounds or something.

Anyway, flex them and feel them, if they're harder you're stronger and measure them every 2-3 weeks or something and see if they build. I lift 3 kilo dumbells, that's like 6 or 7 pounds.
I don't know the exact weight difference between pounds and kilos...huh...

And when you lift you're arms like a plane, your muscles are facing forward...or I'm retarded...
