Why didn't I lose weight?!

Question: I was just on vacation for about a week, and for four of those days I was walking almost nonstop. I wasn't eating ice cream and fattening snacks all the time either. I was visiting a theme park though, so there was a lot of walking and I was pushing a stroller and I think I actually put on five pounds instead of losing any. How come?

If you were on vacation, it's possible you ate a lot more calories than you realized. Plus, weight loss will not show up that quickly from simply walking and pushing a stroller for one week. It's good to increase exercise. Why not continue it at home, and make sure you take the stroller (and baby!) out for a walk every day, and at the same time, reduce calories. There's a formula for how much to reduce calories by to make sure you loose 1-2 lbs a week. You didn't say what your current weight is but whatever it is, multiply that number by 15. Then subtract either 600 or 1200 from that number. The result will be the amount of calories you need to consume in one day to loose either one pound (subtracted 600) or 2 pounds (subtracted 1200). Any more calorie reduction and your body thinks it's starving and slows down metabolism. So you're eating less and not loosing weight. Maybe that's what happened to you on vacation. Also, it's not good enough that you THINK you gained five pounds. You need to get on the scale and find out what's actually going on.

On a healthy diet and cardio you can only lose 1-2lbs a week. You will not see a noticeable difference in 1 week.

If your inches changed downwards, you probably converted some fat to muscle (weighs more). Were you drinking your 64 oz of water a day? Were your bowels regular?

When on vacation I usually forget to drink my water, don't go as regularly as usual, and gain weight as a result.

That's called muscle weight gain.

rarely can have results for a diet in the first week. look this site

sounds like muscle weight gain
hopefully means you've lost a bit of body fat

well done good luck

You probably need to push your heartrate up more. Not a leisurely stroll....Really consider losing weight the way my co-workers and I did....I actually met my goal last week. Can't tell you how much the cds, dvds and downloads helped keep the majority of us on track. For curbing our appetite we used satisfied on half portions and remove the sugar addiction. Some people that hate to drink water used the increasing the desire for water you drink recording (it worked for them) I already love water. Anyway, exercise should always be included and what we used was the P90X dvd. It's like a boot camp for home exercise. Plus the recording to motivate us to want to exercise more. The cds/downloads come from www.independentachievement.com. The dvd for exercise comes from beachbody.com. Good luck. It worked for a big group of us, and we got the idea from Answers!
