How come it takes me so long to run a mile on the tredmil?!

Question: when i run outside, it takes me 8 min. 40 sec.

but when i run on the tredmil, it takes me 11 min. 15 sec.

why is that? and i think i was running at the same speed

you probably weren't running at the same speed, or it could be that it's hot in the gym
