Why am I feeling so tired & can't lose any weight?!

Question: After the 1st of the year, I decided to put myself on a better diet. I got most of the bad food out of the house i.e. white flour products, refined foods, high fat foods, bad fats, junk food, etc and added healthier foods i.e. fresh fruits, vegetables, spouted grain bread, poultry, etc.

But now I seem to have more headaches. I am also very tired. I gained a few pounds & no matter what I do, I can't lose any weight.

Before all of this I was on a high protein / low carb diet. I got down to a good weight but found it too restrictive. Now I am eating healthier but my weight is out of control.

Any suggestions?

First of all, congrats on your efforts to become healthier and improve your diet!
It depends on how much junk food you were consuming, but you might be going through a "detox" phase. You might get headaches because of reducing caffeine, etc. Are you drinking lots of water to flush out the system?

Next, are you sleeping enough? We are all so stressed out, so it seems to make sure you are getting a satisfying amount of rest.

Finally, consider adding a fitness regimen. It seems counterintuitive, but working out will help you lose weight and get some energy back. You probably will be tired at first, but you will get energy after a few weeks.
Good luck!

you really need to excersize to lose weight, it will also help with your headaches and make you feel less sleepy!!

keep an eye on your calories, avoid oil and mayonaisse they arnt bad but the calories can secretly be putting on pounds a month without you knowing its because of them.

Have your thyroid checked. This can happen if it is underactive.
Look up hypothyroid on WebMD.
If you have any other symptoms, make a list for your doctor.

I've heard from several people who have done the high protein/low carbohydrate diet, that when the resume eating a balanced diet, they gain weight. I've given a link to an article from the Washington Post that should give you some pertinent information concerning this weight gain and ways to maintain your loss. Congratulations and best of luck with maintaining!

Not only should you have your thyroid checked, but also your adreanls. If your adrenals are stressed, then you can put on weight like there's no tomorrow. Also check to see if you might be sensitive to gluten. Turned out I was and as soon as I got off all gluten foods, I lost (so far) over 15 kilos without changing anything else!

Are you eating ENOUGH? Sounds crazy, but if you aren't getting enough calories, then your body will go into "starvation" mode & hold on to the fat because it thinks it's in a famine. Try adding foods.

All in all, you should go to your dr. to rule out anything physical that might be happening, too. He/she can give you a referral to a registered dietician/nutritionist that can also help you to set up a program tailored just for you.
