How can I lose weight and tone up too?!

Question: I have been going to the gym and doing cardio for 30 mins and then strength training. I am very over weight. 170 lbs at 5 ft tall. I have a lot of weight to lose. But as I lose it, I want to come out toned...not just slimmer. However, I do know that muscle weighs more than fat. So, in getting toned up, I dont want to end up still weighing a lot. I dont want to weigh more than 120 lbs. I dont want to be skinny, I just want to be toned and too weigh less. How much cardio and strength training should I do?

30 minutes cardio and 30 minutes strength training sounds good to me... Do that 3 or 4 days per week and don't worry about becoming too muscular- that is difficult to achieve and won't happen by accident.

You should consult with one of the personal trainers at the gym and have a analysis of fat to muscle weight ratio. This way you can determine how much weight you really need to lose. Just picking a desired weight as a goal is not the way to go and may in fact cause other health issues. Be realistic and go about it the right way with the help of a weight loss professional. Good Luck!

In order to lose weight and tone up, you must combine weight training with some hard core cardio, like HIIT training.

Most people think that weights will get you "big" but they are the only way to get your body toned. Just doing cardio will turn you into what I call a "skinny fat" person.

check out this article on HIIT training

and if you are interested in a program,... here is one (i found in that HIIT article) that includes HIIT training and weight training, and you can do it at home.
