I have to walk up a mountain, should I go to the gym?!

Question: In two weeks time I have to go on what is described as a leisurely stroll up a mountain. I'm in pretty bad shape, if I go to the gym between now and then will it make a difference?

I think you would be better off going for walks outside. Try to go somewhere that has inclines though as that will help.

The only thing that really prepares you for walking up mountains is practice of walking up mountains!

You don't say how high the mountain is. Also what some people may describe as leisurely is other people's energetic. Believe me I found found that out first hand. Make sure you have good boots/shoes with a good sole, vibram is the best. Good luck.

hell no

it will help. So will drinking plenty of water and eating well.

You need to go on lots of leisurely strolls up hills to practice.
At the very least some stamina work in the gym might stop you passing out too early.

What I want to know is...why do you HAVE to walk up a mountain?

Only if the mountain is in the gym

yes you should and go on a diet
