Is food the enemy?!

Question: Seems silly and we need food to grow, heal, get energy, think, basically many functions of our body, but after a certain age, it just seems like any amount of food, well that's pushing it, but...it seems to be the enemy. It so EASILY ends up as fat on our thighs, stomach, sides, behind, etc, so effortlessly. One wrong binge and it's over. And to correct the mistakes takes months and months and months.

Even if you eat "healthy," that doesn't really seem to matter too much.

How do we really win the battle of the bulge?

It's also not that many of us are lazy, but our lifestyles nowadays especially in this "post-modern" era, are GOING to be sedentary by default. It's just how it is.

So what do we do then?

Eat less? Exercize more? Or just expect a little flab here and there and get used to it?

Eating healthy matters a lot. This fatness phenomenon is relatively new- just started in the last 50 years or so as people ate more and became more lethargic.

I remember as a child in the 70's going to McDonalds and a regular sized fries was the same size as the small $1 fries are now. You had to order everything separate, there was no combo meal that loads 2,000 calories on you all at one time. A big mac or quarter pounder was one of the largest sandwiches on the menu.

Today people exercise less and eat more. The portions at almost every restaurant have grown exponentially over the past 30 years and people are eating a lot more fats and junk food... It used to be a treat for people to go out to eat- they would go out to eat once a week or once a month... A huge part of our society today eats fast food 10 times or more per week now.

The steaks in the supermarket are about twice the size now as well. On a trip to Canada I was suprised how many fewer overweight people there are and was suprised to see reasonable portions of healthy foods being served in the restaurants- at least in comparison to the USA>

Food isn't the enemy--Food producers are. We have taken food so far away from what it originally was, what can we consider healthy? Low fat yogurt filled with artificial sweetener? "Wheat" bread that is colored with caramel color and filled with fake fiber? One hundred calorie packs of chocolate flavored Oreo cookie bites?

I believe food can be our friend if we eat REAL food!

Food is not the enemy. WE are by what we stuff in our mouths on a daily basis. WE make the choices to eat junk or eat healthy. If you just eat junk you will reap what you sow same goes with eating right. So we in the long run only have ourselves to blame if we become overweight.
