Crunch Sit Ups??!

Question: When you do crunch sit ups when are you meant to breath in and out?
Because I heard that if you breath in at the wrong time when doing them you end up with a sort of pouch in your belly where the muscle is pushed forwards rather than pulled in...
.. Please help... ?

You breathe out as you curl up. Think of the curl up as kinda squeezing all of the air out of you, which would, in turn, tighten your stomach. If you exhale through your mouth, you can exhale the most air... this is the most effective way of doing crunches.

breathe out on the way up and breathe in when on way down and relaxed
