How come people think muscle weighs more than fat?!

People that are dieting and exercising are sometimes under the impression that they are not getting anywhere according to the scales. When you convert fat to muscle via exercise you may weigh the same but in actuality you are probably smaller because "muscle weighs more than fat". If you lose fat but gain muscle you can actually be smaller but weigh more. Make any sense?

volume dear...
a pound of fat could be twice the SIZE of a pound od muscle.
got it?

They refer to density.

Ok i will try to explain this to you so you have no probs understanding. The first two answers are actually correct but if you cant get it ill try to explain in more depth. First your point of a pound being a pound nomatter what it is is valled but this is not how you should be looking at this question. If you cut a pound of fat and a pound of muscle from some one and laid it side by side you will notice that the pound of fat appears to be larger. This is because the fat molecules are large spead out and swolen. This makes the fat larger then the pound of muscle even though they weigh the same. So if you would take a 5 inch cube of fat and compare it to a 5 inch cube of muscle the muslces molecules are more dense and there for there is more weight to the muscle then there is to the fat. This is why if you loose 5 inches of fat off of your leg but put on 5 inches of muscle then you will notice an increase in the weight. Does that make sense? So same size in measurment but different weights Similar to a 6inch bar of aluminium and a 6inch bar of lead same size different weight ok?
