If I am only eating around 800-1000 calories a day, will I lose weight?!

Question: I'm currently 245lbs, extremely overweight for my height of 5'7". The doctor told me I had to lose weight due to my hormonal problems, so I have begun exercising and such.

One day I literally woke up and apprarently my body decided I wasn't hungry anymore. For the past week I've only been able to consume a range of 550-1000 calories. I feel ill when I eat more, its the strangest thing.

I was wondering if, since I am so heavy, I will lose weight by eating so few calories? I know its unhealthy, but I'm curious if this new pattern will cause me to lose weight or gain it.

I'm trying to build up calories, but pleas any helpful input would be GREATLY appreciated and helpful! Please don't just tell me its unhealthy, because I know that and I'm not doing it intentionally, I just wanted to know if this causes my body to go into starvation mode because I am so heavy?

you will lose weight initially, but its by starving, because that is not enough calories for someone of you're height. regardless of you're starting weight.

so then when you start eating more, you will gain a lot quickly. and then it will take even less calories to get the same result you got last time (this is how eating disorders start).

keep it to around 1500 (add a few pieces of fruit per day, or veggies or some whole grain toast/ or protein)... you just need a few more...

maybe an apple and some peanut butter, that would definitely put you at the extra calories if you're not really hungry for much more.

at any rate, 1500 calories, and just start walking a little.

trust me if you are down to 1500 calories, at you're current weight you will still drop the pounds quickly but you will keep you're body out of starvation mode.

good luck!!!

:)

yes... but dont forget to poop.

....I have found it to play a crucial role.

You know, you might not be hungry because of what your doc said. Maybe your mind is pressuring you to consume less because you fear health effects.

You probably will lose weight with a diet like that, but only if you burn more every day. Instead of doin sit at home excercises, try something like walking everywhere instead of using your car, for starters.

Yes you will lose the weight, especially if you are exercising regularly. Don't worry about eating too little. As long as you eat something everyday, you'll be fine.

1200 calories is the absolute minimum anyone should eat, but really if you're heavier you should be eating even more than this to prevent your metabolism from experiencing such a drastic change in eating habits. Losing more than 2 lbs per week is very unhealthy and your metabolism will be so messed up that when you go back to eating normal amounts, you'll gain a lot of weight rapidly. Ask your doctor for his advice.

You will lose weight quick with that number of calories per day. And dont worry about your body going into starvation mode because you're not hibernating like a bear. That's only a myth or only if you starve yourself over 48 hours. To ensure that your metabolism stays up, space out your meals in small portions. Eat about 200 cals each time and space them out 3-4 times a day.

u need to eat more calories. cuz if u are excersising (spelling?) you will need the energy, which could be a reason why u feel sick and ill wen u eat more. excersising without enough calories might make u lose ur appetite (but then again its different for most people too) and wen u excersise u lose nutrients and such. so try taking some vitamins throughout the day and maybe try using some energy or diet pills. and obviously its goin to be hard cuz ur body isnt used to less calories, so its probably just a phase that u will need to get through and reach ur goal. so dont let it slow u down!

Eating food is not just about calories. You must eat to have the nutrients needed by your body.

Possibly, your body will become accustomed to your current consumption and won't lose any more weight. What exercises and other activities do you do? Less than 1000 calories without every feeling hungry doesn't seem like your activities are strenuous.

you will lose weight with the fat hanging from your sides....so better to work out and also diet. wishes

Foods that are rich in Omega III oils are excellent for caloric intake. Fish such as salmon and mackeral are good. Cold milled flax seed are great fiber and omega III. Stay away from fast food please. Foods fried in olive oil, slowly repeat low heat and slowly, are great for metabolism. Caloric intake should be at least 2300 to mantain cell regeneration and energy level. You may he enought reserves for now but with a good diet the weight should come off. The hormone problem is most likely genetic and I am not sure what kind of problem it is. If it is low testesterone level, the doctor should give you some supplements to provide those hormones.

This is a good site to learn the value of Omega 3 in fish and other sources...

Slow and easy on the dieting because your body will have to adjust and the exercise will be more beneficial if the right nutrients are available to rebuild after workout. I am not sure what kind of workout you are doing but be slow so your body will not get overly stressed. Aerobics gently for a couple of weeks and then intensity can be increased slowly. Just remember it is not easy to lose weight and keep it off. It takes time to put it on and the same for taking it off. The fast diets are at best temporary. The weight will come back in force and, more than not, increase from origininal loss point.

Good luck with losing the excess and keep the weight off by proper diet. We all are on a diet...that is what eating is, so just go about losing weight not by decreasing intake but by proper intake.
