Am I drinking too much water?!

Question: The last few weeks i've been really really thirsty and i'm drinking a min of 1 gallon/4 Litres of water a day... I only know this because I have a 1/2 gallon bottle and I drink 2 of them each day.
I've been doing pushups, situps, leg lifts, squats... but no real cardio to be in a full sweat.
So I don't understand why i'm so thirsty I don't drink anything but water and maybe a coffee in the morning but thats it... how much water is too much? i'm scared to drink anything more once i've finished my 2 bottles.

"The Institute of Medicine advises that men consume roughly 3.0 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day and women consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day."

3 liters is about 0.8 gallons, so I wouldn't be too worried. If you exercise a lot you're going to need more water, so an extra 0.2 gallons is not going to hurt you.

It shouldn't be a problem as you should just be having to use the restroom more frequently to expel the excess, but it shouldn't be harmful to your body.

i dont think so, i drink absolutely nothing but water. and sometimes i feel like im going to die of thirst and when i drink i pretty much drink a whole bottle of water in one "gulp" i think its your body just saying "refresh me"

If you are excessively urinating you might want to get tested for diabetes. The excessive thirst can be a symptom of many medical conditions.

You might actually want to see a doctor. A gallon of water is a good bit more than you need. Thirst like that can be an early symptom of diabetes. I'd make an appointment with your family doctor and see if he/she thinks its anything to worry about.

While it is healthy to drink a lot of water, drinking too much water will tire out your kidney and may have negative impact to your health in the long term. If you can, seek professional help instead of asking here. Arrange an appointment with your doctor. They are paid to do this.

your suppose to dirnk that much a day

but it can be a sign of medical problems.. like diabetes.

go to your doctor if your concerned

The way you know if you are drinking too much water is if the color of your urine comes out clear and colorless. You are drinking an adequate amount of water when your urine comes out yellow to light yellow.

You might want to get tested for diabetes if you have unexpectedly lost a lot of weight recently and feel really thirsty.

If you are young your thirst mechanism should be a good indicator of how much water you should take in. But if you are an older adult you should be taking in more water than your thirst tells you to.
