The muscle, or is the tendon, above your heel that hurts? The muscle in the calf is the gastrocnemius (underneath that is the soleus). The tendon is the Achilles'. If it is just a mild discomfort with exercise, it may just be tight and need stretching. Standing on that foot on the edge of a step and letting the weight of your body push the heel down is the most effective stretch for your calf. Any stretch should be held for at least 20 seconds to achieve maximal benefit. If it is worsening, you will need to rest from whatever activity causes the problem temporarily to allow healing. Finally, if it is continuing to bother you, seeing a physician or physical therapist is a good idea.

It isn't a muscle! You have achilles tendonitis. Try cold packs for 20mins off for 20, on for 20 off for 20. Then you can take Advil Gen-Ibuprofen ASA if you're over 16 so we don't worry about Reyes syndrome, and you are not going to like this, you have to rest it partially elevated.
If you live in the USA another OTC drug you could use is ORUDIS-KT 25mg.
