How long should I jog for?!

Question: I'm a 14 year old girl and I think I'll try getting out regularly for a jog. I'm 124 pounds and 5'5". I've got a pretty good fitness level. But after a long time of running/jogging I get like a pain in my chest or side. How long should I go out and jog?

30-40 mins is a good time, but 20 minutes is how long you must jog for aerobic benifits to start. Having pains are the result of one or two things: either you didn't stretch properly (each stretch needs to be conducty for 20-30 seconds, not 10) or you ran to soon after eating. Try waiting for at least an hour after eating.

About a mile.
What? Is a mile too long?

30-40mins

jogging is old skool, and walking is better
not worth injuries and stuff...

about half an hour and then walk home

1-2 miles until you get in real good shape

just jog until you get tired. The more that you do it the longer you will be able to job for.

The pain in your chest/side is likely from becoming water-logged. Try drinking a sports drink instead of strait water if you are jogging for long periods of time.

30-1 hour a day

if you want to look fabulous, then take my advice. jog about 1-2 mile slow, never go fast, or u will end up with skin. so slow just to lose sweat!

This is what I found worked. I'm not sure if it's the "right" way, but you know. I would go and pick a point to jog too (it was on a canal road, so there were bridges and stuff) and that was my goal. Every day, I would extend it a bit. Even if you only do an extra couple metres, it'll build up.

I did it so that I would be tired, but I would push myself. That's not for everyone, cuz it SUCKS!! but when you're done, it feels so good. And it's awesome to have the points picked out and realize one day that you can get past your first, second, third point without even getting tired. You realize that all this jogging is actually paying off.

In order to raise your heartrate, you must do aerobic excercise for at least 20 minutes. Therefore you are not truly getting a cardio workout until 20 minutes have passed. If you are getting a pain after the initial 20 minutes, stop when the pain starts, or soon after. Each time you go out after that, I'd try to increase it by a few minutes. Once you are better conditioned, you really shouldn't experience pain in your side anymore.

Actually, doing wind sprints is a much better exersice. Do two sets of ten. Exersicing your quick-flex mucsles will get you into better shape than endurance training.

Say you have telephone poles where you live. Sprint one, walk one, sprint one, walk one. Repeat.

I would say around 30 minutes you are young and need to just keep your heart rate up.

that is good start for just like 15 mins then work your way up, Usually go for like 1/2 a mile then on up to jogging in the summer for about 3 mi every other day! But you are young so I would go about a mile at the most every other day. you can always just walk. also, that pain you get is from sucking air. remember to breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth. Also, keep your ears and head covered and maybe your mouth as well.if it is 22 outside then you do not need to be jogging.ts
check out the link below this is some advice and a website you can go to.

30 minutes..
Wear sweat pants, a tank top and a comfy sweater over it
Bring water! or drink plenty before you go

if you breathe in and out slowly the side ackes should go away. It sounds like you aren't breathing right. What I wear when it's cold is polly pro pants underneath track pants and a polly pro shirt underneath a track jacket. Make sure you wear hat and gloves as well.
You should try to run 3 miles. I run about 10.. but I do this every day :)

Good Luck!
