Can a man gain weight by bathing in a hot spring?!

Question: I weigh myself both before and after taking my morning shower, lol... I've never gained weight by taking a shower, in fact the scale always reads a loss of 1/2 to 1 lbs.

you shouldn't gain any weight by taking a hot bath or jumping into a hot spring unless your normal environment is cold and the circulation serves to vasodialate your cells increasing your weight through better circulation leading to better nutritional absorbtion

I'd think it more likely that you would lose weight (maybe just water weight from sweating).

Studies say that you gain 3-4 lbs taking a shower, it is a difficult question, for you are losing sweat yet your pores are really open in the heat which can then lead to greater fluid intake.

hmm i don't think so, unless you count osmosis as a factor but the weight gain from the water in osmosis to the body is very minimal since when you get out of the water, the water just diffuses out of you again

In a hot spring??

Are you sure that you didn't pick up a turtle? Better check.

If he eats a great deal while doing so.

Seriously, while skin has some limited permeability to the ions found in mineral hot springs, the influx would not make a difference on the scale. In terms of net flow of all matter, it would be outward with sweat. One is more likely to lose weight if anything, as MP_doc pointed out, through sweating. I doubt if the amount of mass loss to sweat would be appreciable.

depends how thirsty he is ;o)
