VITAMIN Pills???????!

Question: Ok, So I bought these vitamin pills (Centrum Multi-Vitamin). I am a college student who is living on campus, and I just absolutely hate the food options. So I keep eating the same thing everyday...Because of this I am not getting the right vitamins, and I am noticing changes in my body...For example, I have noticed that my nails are changing color..(they are getting brown streaks in them....it's quite unattractive)...what I want to know is

1. If there is some sort of trick to taking pills. I've tried putting the pill in my mouth and taking a big gulp of water. Haven't had any luck with that...usually when I have to take pills I crush the pill and mix it in my juice...But these pills taste and smell really bad

2. Do any of you guys take vitamins?

3. If you do, which one and does it work?

4. Is there a difference between chewable vitamins and non- chewable..as in, does one work faster that the other (refering to the time that it takes to actually see a difference)

Thank You...

Often those multi vitamins are rather large and hard to even break in half....I take on every day as part of my diet routine. You could crush it with a spoon or cut it in half, but use a butter knife in case you slip...it won't take your finger off..they are a good source if your not getting what you need from your food source. I have a good diet but it's strict, I take one anyway....Chewables are just as good and may be better for you if you have a problem with the others....Can't you cook in your room? Or cook at the frat house and keep it in your room.....I cook a weeks worth of food in one night....

Vitamin A is supposed to be good for your nails. As for crushing pills, don't. there's a reason why they're in pill form. It allows for the slow dissolving of the pill.

I know what you mean about dorm food. I hated eating in the sub everyday because you ate the same thing and there were never enough options. Coming from a home where every night we had good home cooked meals to that crap sucked. Taking a multi-vitamin is great idea. If they are to big to swallow for you, try cutting them in half or crushing them into some yogurt. You really don't get the vitamins your body needs from that crappy food. I took the centrum men's vitamin and still take it now. It also will help boost your immune system which seems to crash in college. Drink lots of water and wash your hands! Good luck.

When I feel like I have to take a vitamin. I smash it and put it in something really good to eat. Like some of that hazelnut chocolate spread. I sometimes add a little of peanut butter.
Hazelnut spread has alot of iron in it which is helpful.
