Am I lifting too much weight for a beginner?!

Question: I just started lifting weights for the first time, I've lifted for about a week now. I'm 18, I'm a pretty big guy, I'm just trying to bulk up and gain more muscle mass. I was just wondering if I am lifting too much weight to start out, my max bench was 210, I can hit a lot of reps at lower weight levels, on the leg machine it only goes up to 490 and I was hitting 10 reps at a time. A lot of other people told me they were doing a lot less when they started, and some that have been lifting for a while can't even do what I do, so should I just keep going at the pace I'm at or should I lift less to start? Also my arms hurt for the first couple of days, but the pain went away.

Damn thats hot.
ahem, sorry,.. Im a lil gym rat myself, and muscles rock.
Grab a friend thats a trainer, have them watch your FORM, you got to make sure you are doing the lifting right, it may look simple like sit her and pull this bar, etc etc but if your form is wrong then lifting 500lbs will be pointless. So make an apt with a trainer.
Once you make sure your form is OK then, hell ya whatever weight you lift as long as you lift it right and do not pull anything in your bod is just fine! Dont compare you to anyone, your bod is different. It really is important to make one apt with a trainer tho, you got to make sure you have proper form or else your lifting will not get you the bet results in the shortest time.

Usually it hurts when u start new... but if its persistant and disallows you from doing any other work...you need to slow down.... nothing can be gained in a single day by doin more of it...that too gaining muscle is a slow process....if u lift too much..u ll become tired soon... if you lessen the weight you can do more of it for more times.... see it tallies.... so dont overstrain...
