Im really upset could somebody please explain this to me?!

Question: I have just input my details into www.extrapounds.com and was horrified to find the results where as follows:

Body mass index (BMI): 25.5
Body surface area (BSA): 1.74
Ideal body weight: 8 st 3lb - 8 st 3 lb
Lean body weight: 7 st9lb
BMI Category:
Obese

I have always known I have been slightly overweight but to be told I am obease when I have already conscience of it. I have been reffered to as 'large' and even fat, although my friends reassure me that I am not. I know it shouldn't and I always appear confident, but this really scares me and I fear it may be true. How much weight do you think I should lose? I would do it healthly, not stop eating.

I am a size 12 on top, (but I am 34DD) and size 10 on bottoms. I carry a bit of weight on my tummy and wouldn't ever show it, but it's not terrible. I am 5' 4" and 1/2, medium build and weight 10 stone 8lbs. It sounds a lot but it dosnt look that much. How much should I lose? Please help, this has scared me!

Firstly, you are not obese. The clinical definition of obese is a BMI higher than 30. The on-line calculator you used seems to be a bit off. 10 stone 8 lbs (148 lbs?) at a height of 5' 4.5" gives a BMI of 25 which is just over the Normal weight (ie you would be in the normal range if you lost 1 lb). If you go down to the suggested lean weight of 7st 9lbs (107 lbs) that gives a BMI of 18.1 which is underweight!

My opinion don't worry about the numbers and care about being fit. It is not worth being a size 0 if you can't lift 50 lbs of weight.

Better calculator at NHLBI: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/

You BMI is only a little over healthy...

Try this site instead - it will tell you same thing but also how much you need to lose and how many calories you can eat to lose the weight AND when you should have reached your target weight.

Its free and you don't have to register - just fill out the stuff on the right:http://www.nutracheck.co.uk/process.jsp?...

You'll be sorted in no time!

between 12-24. no more than that

I would swop with you !!

BMI is pretty crap anyway.....Johnny wotsit the rugby player is obese according to his BMI...and from the pics of him with no top on I don't think so

Dont worry, You shouldnt, it isnt that bad, if your really worried, just try and exercise more and eat healthy food. it will all come off that way.

The BMI is an indicator of nothing, so don't worry about that. According to the BMI, boxer Mike Tyson is overweight.

You should concentrate on cardio training and lifting light weight to tone your muscles. I don't think there is any specific amount of weight you should lose.

Obese is a word to describe being over the top weight compared to your other details.
The other stupid words are Clinically obese and Morbidly obese.
They are just words. If it said 'A bit on the cuddly side' or 'A bit bloated today' You wouldn't worry, So If you are otherwise ok don't let it get to you.

i know what its like to be a big girl I'm
5ft 1 and was told my perfect weight would be 9 stone your taller than my self so you should be a bout 9 and half to 10 stone so by no means are you Obese
it sounds like you need to tone not diet
