-Percent of noninstitutionalized adults age 20 years and over who are overweight or obese: 66.3
-Percent of noninstitutionalized adults age 20 years and over who are obese: 32
-Percent of adolescents age 12-19 years who are overweight: 17
-Percent of children age 6-11 years who are overweight: 19
--------------------------------------...
In 2000, HHS estimated the overall annual economic costs of obesity in the U.S. to be $117 billion. Americans spend an estimated $40 billion per year on diet-related products alone. Despite the size of this unmet medical need, the
pharmaceutical market to treat obesity is relatively small because there are few therapies currently available and most are ineffective or poorly tolerated by patients. While some patients are candidates for gastric bypass or reduction surgery, the potential complications, including mortality, and the substantial costs and recovery time make it a realistic option only for those patients characterized as morbidly obese.

"the total economic cost of obesity in the U.S."? What do you mean?

A lot!!!

http://www.wholepurefood.com

watch "how to get fat without really trying" you will find a lot of statistics and helpful information there.

60%

i think it's in the 30's% , and costs the government billions every year

As of 2002, 31% of the population was obese. I'm sure that it's grown.

80%, 40% are obese.

Also it is not against the law to be overweight so total cost shouldn't matter.

I've never heard an exact number. But I've heard 75% of Americans are over weight. If that's true (and double check that) that would be 225 million Americans.
