Can carrying a heavy bookbag be a good thing?!

Question: I carry a very heavy bookbag. With laptop, textbooks, etc., I'm guessing that it weighs 40 pounds.

Does carrying this backpack offer extra benefits while walking to class? I've noticed that other "fit" people can barely lift it (I'm definitely not fit.)

If it does, would it also be good to carry it while walking for exercise?

Thanks in advance!

It'll give you more muscles, but I'd be very careful about how you carry it as you're liable to get back and shoulder problems with both bone growth and muscle strains. Might not show immediately, but could in 20 years time.

Also you're putting a lot of strain on other body parts like your knees which won't appreciate it. Again, takes a few years before this stuff really shows.

If you carry that, make absolutely sure it's in a rucksack and evenly spread across your back or you'll cause damage to the stuff between the backbone vertebrae (can't remember the name off hand) and that'll cause a lot of pain in the future as you're essentially pulling them to one side and weakening them.

Wait until you're 30 - then you'll find out!

That's too much!

Bags too heavy can be painful on your back and shoulders.

carrying a heavy bookbag can be good for some of your upper arm muscles, but doing so for an extended period of time can have effects on you later in life. it is NOT good for your back.

absolutly nottt. it would ruin your back.......also if u have to bring it to school or wherever remember to get one the goes on both ur shoulders, its better.

How many times are you going to ask this same question?

Kids have had to carry heavy backpacks with school books in them FOR YEARS... so suck it up and quit sniveling... it's not going to change... so get used to it.

The word Karma means there will always be a reaction to any actions. You might not know what it is now, but one day (could be years from now) when you are dealing with back problems and can barely walk you won't have to ask why me. The good part is Karma can change by changing your actions. I do not know how, but if you can change the way you carry all your stuff some how, you can also change any problems that might happen one day. Invent a better way to do it, save your back, and get rich while helping others could be the ultimate change in your back pack actions you do right now.

carrying a bookbag which is heavy can lead to serious health problems..so i would say no bc it can lead to scoloisois(sp) which is where u spine gets curved and if reallly bad require surgery...no plz stop carryin it bc it will only hurt instead of help u!! GOOD LUCK!

Studies have been done on school age kids on this and it has been determined that prolonged use can create long term health, back problems. Any type of backpack should be carried as high up on the torso as possible so you can bend forward at the waist and not have the weight pulling you backwards.
