Menopause is a rough time for women. If you're looking to lose weight, depending on how fit you are right now, try eliminating all the extra sugar in your diet espeically in what you're drinking. Sodas, Cool-Aid, and many other flavored drinks have enough sugar in them to make you gain 14 pounds a year. That's a lot of fat. Try switching what you're drinking now to water or flavored water if you like drinking something that tastes good.

Also, the most basic rules for losing weight is to burn more calories than you take in. Don't have a gym membership? Then start taking walks or short jogs around your block to burn off what you eat. A lot of people believe that you need to run to lose weight, but it's more effective to walk for a long period of time than to run for two minutes.

Also, check the Nutrition Lables of what you're eating. Does that Twinkie or cookie REALLY contain what you need to lose weight. Make a trip to the supermarket and buy some fruits that you love to snack on instead of that bag of chips.

It's really easy to lose weight if you are really willing to change what goes in and what you do with your body.

Hope that helps

you are not going to like the answer. every year, after about 30, we lose a small percentage of our muscle mass. muscle burns of 9 cal vs. fat at 3 cal at rest...so one basic thing is you need to add strength exercises...like push ups, or curls with a heavy can or a jug of milk in your hands. It all comes down to the fact also that our metabolisms do slow, so eating the same as you always have is going to make you gain...and usually around the waist area. sucks right? so that means eat less calories, not starve, and I recommend the volumetrics diet which encourages more veggies and fruits and soups etc. walking is a great exercise, free and burns calories. I do yoga and Pilate's because besides relaxing and strengthening me, they make me stand up straight and keep me limber enough so that when I am 90 I can tie my own shoes. just remember, any work we do on ourselves now is only going to make us healthier 30 years from now. good luck.
