Is brisk walking a good way to lose weight?!


Question: For 2 hours a day. 1 hour in the morning, 1 hour in the evening. For someone who is 16 and weighs 261 pounds.

My brother lost weight from walking. He was 17 at the time and weighed 250. Now he weighs 248. Hes kept that weight off for 2 years. He walks occasionally now. He would walk everyday for maybe an hour or 2. Sometimes he would go for 2 hours and come back. Then we noticied he started to look like he was losing weight. Then other people noticied it. It took maybe a month for us to notice. All he did was use walking to lose weight. Im wondering if I do the samething when I get a treadmill.

If I walk about 3.5 mph on the treadmill for 2 hours a day, could I be able to lose weight by May or June? Maybe 10 pounds atleast? I cut out soda. I do occasionally pig out and eat sweets. Im trying to stop but its hard.

Walking is a great way to lose weight if you do not have a fitness level. Also try taking the stairs when you can. As far as the foods your eating use water and diet sodas if you have to have a pop. Sometimes when we crave sweets we are really thirsty, so try water before eating a sweet. Even a crystal light in water might help. IF you balance out the eating and the walking you will lose weight. You need to take away 500 calories a day from diet and exercise to lose a pound a week.

Weight loss depends on the balance between calories taken in and calories used up through exercise.

3.0 miles/hour (20 min./mile) burns .027 calories per pound per minute
3.5 miles/hour (17 min./mile) burns .033 calories per pound per minute
4.0 miles/hour (15 min./mile) burns .042 calories per pound per minute
4.5 miles/hour (13 min./mile) burns .047 calories per pound per minute
