There's always squat-thrusts (also known as Burpees), the ultimate exercise for confined quarters. Start from a standing position. On 1, squat down and touch the floor. On 2, take your weight on your hands and kick your feet back to a pushup position. On 3, lower yourself to the floor. On 4, classic pushup. On 5, rock forward on your arms and pull your feet back under you so you're squatting again. On 6, stand up (jump up and do a jumping jack if you've got the energy).

Now, you're thinking, "If I can't do jumping jacks, how am I possibly going to do pushups?" Well, of course you can't. So, start out by just doing counts 1, 2, 5 and 6, and add the odd pushup here or there as you get into better shape.

I've been jumping rope. They say that 10 minutes of jumping rope is equal to a mile of running. It really gets your heart rate up fast.

Running up and down stairs is a good one, jusy be careful.

you can do mountain climbers, jump roping, ski jumper, etc. BUT jumping jacks are great and I recommend you keep doing those. When your calves hurt, the muscles are getting torn up, which is good, you need to keep going and push through the pain. The only way to get stronger and leaner is to work your body harder than it's used to and tear up the muscles (the pain you feel) so that they rebuild the muscle stronger than before. If you quit everytime it hurts, you will never get better.
