I read recently that vigorous exersize in short bursts (10-15 minutes) several times a day will keep your metabolism running at a higher rate throughout the day.

Also, avoid foods that make you feel sluggish - high fat and highly processed foods, definately avoid any sort of fast food. Read labels for hydrogenated vegetable oil and high fructose corn syrup and avoid them like the poisons that they are.

EAT MORE !!!

When you eat more your body needs to make room for the next meal so your metabolism kicks in and burns it off. When you eat less your body stores that food because it feels that you are starving it. It will take a few days or maybe even weeks to get it going but if you eat 5 - 6 smaller meals a day you metabolism will increase and burn more calories a day.

I agree with Dallas D. Eating actually raises your metabolism.

When you don't eat, your body goes into starvation mode and your metabolism shuts down to conserve fuel. If you eat more, your body knows that food (fuel) is available and your metabolism will speed up and to burn calories.

eat healthy, fresh, wholegrain foods. Avoid red meats, they tend to be unhealthy. and take multivitamins

and exercise, i would suggest running

You can trick your metabolism by eating more calories on weekends than you do on weekdays. The extra boost in caloric intake will make you burn them faster, while lowering them on the other days will give you fewer calories to burn.
