I usually jog for a minute or two before i start, to get my blood pumping

-always be hydrated, think of water as your body's oil, its needed to perform well
-have a high protein diet
-consume carbs to give you energy
-listen to music to get you pumped up and keep you entertained
-work out with a friend

about you being hurt while lifting, it is most likely that you are doing the lifts incorrectly. consider getting a personal trainer to follow you around while you do your lifts for a sessino to point out anything that you may be doing wrong
hope i helped and
good luck!

warm up with lighter weights, then the heavy sets and stretch after not b4!!

Both - warming up with some very light weights and some stretching is important. Also, work your way up in weight. Proper form is more important then how much you lift. Get a trainer for an hour or two if you need it.

yes, stretching and warming up will let your muscles get ready for your workout.

plus being sore is a good thing bacuase lactic acid fermentation occurs which is a sign of muscle growth/tone

that is the indicator your doing things right. but in time your body will grow immunities to the lactic acid and you won't become so sore anymore

Soreness is OK....pain is NOT....if anything is painful STOP. If you're only looking to tone up don't go heavy...do a warm up set that you don't count as a workout set....light in the 12 to 15 rep range...
