What prevents corn from digesting properly?!


Question: How come, unlike most foods, when you ingest corn, it often does not fully digest and can be found in your.. umm.. "stool" later?

specifically speaking, Cellulose is what isn't digestible. its also called dietary fiber and is essential to a healthy diet in that it scrapes and irritates(in a good way) the inside lining of the intestines and promotes clean, healthiness. hope that helps!

Cause it is so small, it just runs right down your stomach.

That's because the human body does not contain the enzymes to digest stuff like corn. So it comes out undigested in our poop.

If the corn passes without being absorbed you did not
break the skin of the corn kernels when you chewed them.

The digestive track can not digest the the outer skin of the
corn and it must be physically broken by chewing.

If it passes in tact then it was not chewed properly.
