Diet pop (soda) slowing metabolism?!

Question: Has anyone else read that some nutritionists believe diet soda can actually slow down your metabolism? Do you think there is any merit to this theory?

yes, I've read similar reports from various sources, all of them credible and whose veracity is certain. The primary component or culprit is the sweetener used. Most diet sodas, if not sweetened with sucralose (the generic name for Splenda?), are sweetened with aspartame (the generic name for Nutrisweet?). These inhibit metabolism but, oppositely so, will increase cravings for sweets.

I haven't read it but I do believe it can.

i havent read about it but i do believe it is very possible. and also diet sodas can cause you to gain weight. the best thing to do is just get away from pop all together. drink tea and i mean the stuff you make at home cause the stuff you buy that is flavored in the store still has all that sodium and high fructose corn syrup in it.

I don't think you should be drinking any kind of soda period.

I believe that it's not as good for a dieter as you think it would be. Mentally it can make you eat more because you feel like you've had less calories than you think and gives you a false sense of fullness. There is so much crap in soda I would just stay away from it all together but if you need that fizz buy sparkling soda and mix it with a fruit juice.

btw. Reg. soda is horrible for you...the phosphoric acid strips the lining of your stomach making your stomach freak out and it needs to replace what's been stolen and so it takes calcium from your bones.

I know that it makes you crave more sugar.

Yes, I read that studies show that drinking diet soda sends a message to the stomach that sugar is on it's way, but no sugar comes down, so this confuses the stomach. If you drink enough diet soda everyday, your stomach won't react properly to normal sugar and so you will not process it correctly and it may cause weight gain.

Do I believe this... I don't know... Coke Zero is delicious.

Artificial sweetener messes with leptin and insulin signaling which messes with metabolism and causes weight gain.

Diet soda is terrible for your health and ironically it causes weight gain.

Aspartame (the artificial sweetener used in over 9000 products) has over 92 known side effects that impact your health. It was listed as a bio weapon by the government to be used against our nations enemies before it was approved to be put in our food and drink.

Do yourself a favor and drink good water.
