Gastric Bypass VS Lap Band?!

Question: What would you reccommend and why? What are the pros and cons? Do you have any experience with either one and what would you do differently. How much weight did you lose and how long did it take you to lose it?

Serious answers only please

To answer your question, they are two different approaches to minimize the size of your stomach's allowable intake. I say it like that because when i explain what happend to me, i use hand gestures that work well. So basically. Your stomach is shaped like a D... they take and sever the stomac so that only the leg is left and the big part of the D is stapled seperately. They don't remove that part but it no longer allows for food intake. Then they route the small instestine just a bit differently to accomidate for the changes.

Where as a lap bad, is like a gel ring they rap around the bottom of the esophogus so that you can't fit stuff in it (sorta)... at any rate, it is undoable and the size of the amount of food allowed is flexible.

For me, I was like - I'm all in dude. I don't want any thing like port for them to access the gel, or any reason to have to loose weight any longer than i did (i lost 160lbs in 1.5 yrs)

A couple of things you should know. This is a tool. and bout 5 yr out a lot of people revert back to old foodie habits or have other things go on and for whatever reason can gain weight again. But. Myself. I refuse to get fat again. I drink water eat minimally (a meal the size of a lean cuisine is perfect portion for me).... take my vitamins (trust me if you don't take your vitamins - things can get bad!) I've had a healthy baby since ym surgery and for the most part would never ever ever re-consider this choice i've made. If you want to read about my complicatioins, and more of my general expereience morphing into an average woman check out my blog at averagewoman.wordpress.com

i haven't had either--cousin in law had bypass and she only lost 40 lbs--Al Roker on the Today Show had the bypass(i think) and lost more, plus he still watches what he eats--the lap band is less risky but still has its drawbacks--with either one you still have to change your eating habits to healthier food and portions--I don't think i know anybody that has had the lap band and I would go by what my dr feels would be right for me--but then I have a dr that is very good and that I trust(took me 35 yrs to find one too)--Only the person considering this option needs to research both and decide.
